Gear: Samsung Series 7 Slate, 3DMark.
Youtube user ahmedp800 on Youtube asked me if I could a few 3DMark benchmarks. So I downloaded 03 and 05 versions and ran them.
There's no audio on the videos because they are demos.
3DMark03 Score 4406

- GT2 - Battle of Porxycon: 30 fps
- GT3 - Troll's Lair: 24.9 fps
- GT4 - Mother Nature: 32 fps

- CPU Test 2: 6.27 FPS

Hopefully these benchmarks give you an idea of what the Samsung Series 7 Slate can do.

3DMark05 removed thanks to deuce bags FuturaNetworks.
How do 3dMark05 and 3dMark06 differ? I've ran 06 on my W520 and the i7-2720qm hardly delivers 3-4 fps in cpu tests while this cute slate with i5 hits 6 fps. Is something wrong with my W520 or is the 05 cpu test simply lighter?

Ensure that you are running the W520 on a Performance battery mode. If you don't it may give you some crappy results. When running a system on battery the battery mode sometimes is changed to save power.
ReplyDeleteSome systems down throttle the CPU when they get hot. I have heard down throttling issues with both the W520 and the Series 7 Slate systems. If your W520 is having those issues it could be running at something less powerful a low performance Atom processor (scary right?). There has been a few software updates by Lenovo that you may have to download and install to correct these issues. (bios, chipset, power management)
Also make sure that the W520 is running on Nvidia graphics.

Keep in mind that some 3D programs are created for specific brand of graphics cards. Some run better on Nvidia, others run better on AMD. When I conducted benchmarks on the W520 (Nvidia) and my HP DV6T (AMD) I got different numbers on different benchmarks/games.
Overall the Samsung Series 7 Slate is a neat system that can do some 3D. If you were to compare the 03 and 05 versions there's a big difference in results, and that's due to ever increasing graphic complexity in benchmark programs and games.
