Program shortcuts on your desktop will have an arrow. These arrows indicates that it is a shortcut. These arrows in a way clutter your desktop and if you remove them your shortcuts will look "cleaner".
Download a registry to remove arrows at mydigitallife.info
If you run into "black boxes" you can fix it by doing this:

This has worked for me, and I have rebooted 3 times in a row; I see no reason for it to go back to black boxes.

- Open “regedit”
- Navigate to
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Icons
- Right click and delete the “Shell Icons” folder from your registry.
- Reboot
