Gear/links: X230T Accessories, Lenovo Support.
So the first day of using the X230T I ran into an issue where the Trackpoint and Touchpad/Trackpad stopped working. The good thing is that the issue is fixable by reinstalling a driver.
What causes the problem?
I noticed that the Trackpoint stopped working after Windows Update installed many updates. I think maybe one of these updates corrupted/modified the drivers. (anything can happen)
Restarting the X230T would make the Trackpoint work for a short period of time, and then it would stop working. Uninstalling the device (through Device Manager) and letting the system reinstall drivers will NOT work. The solution is to download the drivers from Lenovo's website.
Fix the Trackpoint:
- Go to Lenovo's Support website.
- Find your system within that cluttered menu.
- Click on the Drivers & Software on the left side.
- Scroll down to "Mouse and Keyboard" and expand it.
- Download the UltraNav driver.
- Run the installer.
- Restart computer.
Once your computer boots up your Trackpoint and Touchpad will come alive again. Yay!

Thank you for the trick. Had the same Problem today after installing some Windows Updates!
ReplyDeleteI heard some systems also get an unresponsive touch screen after some Windows Updates. Reinstalling drivers seem to fix this issue.
DeleteBoy, I am getting a whole bunch of driver problems on this thing... although, with the touch screen, I don't use the touchpad and trackpad much but still need it in some places (mostly games that don't support the touch screen) and I've tried the fix you suggested, and it still doesn't work!!! Looks like I've got some work ahead of me...
DeleteSome of the 64bit drivers do not seem to work properly, if that is the case then try the 32bit drivers.
DeleteThe fingerprint reader does not work with Windows 7 Professional 64bit when you are an Administrator. To get rid of those annoying device driver pop up messages you can install the 32bit finger print reader drivers (no more annoying messages after the reboot).
Thans a lot!!!
DeleteI have reinstalled the driver a number of times. For the administrator account the trackpoint and pad work fine. When I log in as the user and install the driver they work but as soon as I restart the laptop they stop working again. That's why I do not do the 'Restart Now' option after loading the driver. The user has been given administrative access to the local machine but still the problem continues. Any ideas? Cheers.
ReplyDeleteContact Lenovo support, they might have info that I am not aware of.
DeleteMy TrackPoint/TrackPad began to show those issues after running Windows Update, so that could be the culprit. I am not 100% of all the differences from a regular user account and the administrator account and how it affects all of the installation/read/write rights. I use my system as an Administrator and that works well. Sorry.
Same problem here. After a restart, the touchpad continues to not work. I don't think Lenovo even has a solution to this problem yet...?
ReplyDeleteTry with reinstalling those drivers, but right click on the executable and "Run as administrator"

Thanks! I didn't do a good job with the X220T, but I tried to improve the quality for the X230T posts/videos. Hopefully it's good enough.
DeleteThank's We literally just ran into this issue today.
ReplyDeleteIt's a weird bug, so plenty of X230T owners will run into it. I'm glad the info was useful.
DeleteHad same problem now, it touchpad is fine, but trackball constantly dead
ReplyDeleteHad the same problem, but your guide fixed it. Thank you so much! You've saved me from a lot of frustration!!!
ReplyDeleteHi I did everthing like the guide said but it still keeps moving everywhere and than stops i have litterly 5minutes to do my thingg.. anyhelp please?
ReplyDeleteIf everything fails get a USB mouse. Use the USB mouse until you can fix the touchpad/trackpoint drivers.
Deletewe bought 90 of these and have the issue happen again and again and again.... reinstalling the driver fixes the problem, but we have had the same issue come back on the same laptops...lenovo can't fix it because they can't recreate it. its annoying as h*ll
ReplyDeleteMake sure that you run your systems under an Administrator account, run Windows Update, and then reinstall the drivers. It's easy, although time consuming, for a few machines; to do it for many systems I'm not entirely sure but there are network software that may be able to do this with multiple systems at the same time (try Novell software).
DeleteI installed the driver and it caused the touch pad and the track point to start working again! However once this happened the touchscreen became unresponsive to both my fingers and the pen. How do I restore functionality to the touchscreen?
ReplyDeleteDownload drivers from Lenovo's website, or download the Tablet PC drivers from Wacom's website. http://us.wacom.com/en/support/drivers
Deletehi brother, my lenovo thinkpad R500 got a issue. its trackapd is working, but touchpad, left key and right key is not working. kindly requested you to help.
ReplyDeleteTry each of these: reinstall drivers (download them from Lenovo's support website); ensure that these buttons are active via BIOS; ensure that these buttons are not disabled via Lenovo software (click Windows key and type 'mouse', and navigate to the right-most tab for trackpad options); if these fail then contact Lenovo support.
DeleteOk im having problems with my Thinkpad x230 and Track Point/Touchpad
ReplyDeleteIf updating the drivers does not solve the problem then you may have to begin carrying a mouse. http://www.jessebandersen.com/2013/08/lenovo-thinkpad-x230-tablet-random.html
