Toshiba Encore 2 Write - Comparisons with Surface Pro 3 and ThinkPad X230T

The Toshiba Encore 2 Write uses Wacom AES for its digitizer input--dubbed TruNote pen.  This post has some details and comparisons with other technologies, including N-Trig DuoSense 2 and Wacom Penabled.  Also, there are some screen quality comparisons with the Microsoft Surface Pro 3.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Active Capacitive Pen is a Wacom AES pen.  As you can see, the Encore 2 Write tablet recognizes the pen... however it is not fully compatible--hover and the two side buttons work but the actual pen tip on the screen does not (so no inking is allowed).  The TruNote pen is the Encore 2 Write's proper digitizer.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is one of the best tablets on the market because it has very good processing power, a beautiful screen, great speakers etc.  However, the Surface Pro 3 has an N-Trig DuoSense 2 pen, which is not as good as other technologies.  The Encore 2 Write Wacom AES technology is better than N-Trig DuoSense 2.

Notice the difference in screen quality.  The Surface Pro 3 is definitely better.

The resolution is substantially different.  So the Surface Pro 3 will allow you to see more per single glance.

The ThinkPad X230T on the left side is the system I have used for a long time--it uses Wacom Penabled technology.

With Microsoft OneNote we can synchronize notes.  The inking on the Penabled system feels very good although is not as precise.  The AES is more precise but the pen does not feel as good as Penabled.  The DuoSense 2 is similarly precise-wise compared to the AES, but has a noticeable delay when performing quick strokes, and also requires more effort in order to create thicker/bolder lines.
